FirstRand employees and learners from Orange Farm celebrate the game of Football together

On Saturday 4th August, the sports fields of Tshepana Primary School in Orange Farm were filled with the sounds of excited and determined children as they competed in a one day soccer finals tournament for schools in the Gauteng South East District. 150 children from 10 schools in the district took part in the final. Six schools from the area who are also part of the weekly primary school league activity were also handed new soccer gear. Employee volunteers from the FirstRand Group (First National Bank, Rand Merchant Bank, WesBank and Eris Properties) sponsored the refreshments and sustenance, the 6 new soccer kits, medals, trophies and the festivities on Saturday.

38 FirstRand Business Units will donate funds and time to their Nelson Mandela Month Library Book Drive Initiatives through July

The FirstRand Volunteers Programme is encouraging employees across FirstRand, First National Bank, Rand Merchant Bank and WesBank to donate "67 mins" of their own personal time to donating and hosting fundraisers to raise funds to support library book drives through July. Employees who host fundraisers to raise funds to purchase library books or books in general, take time out of the office to paint and implement container libraries, categorise school libraries and spend time reading to learners, will be matched by The FirstRand Volunteers Programme. Over 38 business unit teams across the FirstRand Group have registered to participate in Mandela Day initiatives through the month of July. WATCH THIS SPACE FOR UPCOMING STORIES AND PICTURES

Nelson Mandela Month Library Book Drives

FREEDOM PARK RESIDENTS RECEIVE A HOT MEAL AND A WARM BLANKET

On Wednesday, 4th July, 500 residents from the Freedom Park Informal Settlement in Soweto, received a meal and a warm blanket to help cope with the harsh Highveld winter. Employees from FirstRand, First National Bank, Rand Merchant Bank and WesBank have been raising funds over the past four months to purchase blankets, beanies or school shoes for the underprivileged across the country, as part of the group's winter warmer drive. These fundraisers have resulted in a total donation of over 10 000 blankets, 3 800 beanies and 2000 pairs of school shoes, through the months of June and July. These blankets, beanies and school shoes have been distributed countrywide to organisations supported by staff.

Freedom Park residents receive a hot meal and a warm blanket

FirstRand employees partnered with McCarthy and the READ Trust to deliver much needed school reading material to 11 schools in rural North West Province

At 4am on Saturday, 19th May, 100 FR employees set off from the FNB Learning Centre for Wolmaransstad 26 4x4's transported much needed teacher reading material to 11 farm schools in this rural area. McCarthy teamleaders lead the volunteers on the 7 different rallies, and each rally visited with 2 schools. The volunteers will get to test their 4x4's on the dirt roads in the area and have the rewarding experience of being able to visit the schools and be a part of handing over the teacher modules.This year the volunteers distributed 3000 blankets to all the learners at the schools they visited. Staff from FirstRand, First National Bank, Rand Merchant Bank, WesBank, Eris Properties and Tshikululu Social Investments participated in the rally this year.
